Ubisoft Releases “The Smurfs Dance Party” Video Game

Ubisoft recently released The Smurfs Dance Party for Wii, based on this summer’s 3-D family movie. In the video game, characters from the film, including Smurfette, Papa Smurf, Clumsy, Brainy, Gutsy, and Gargamel, as well as up to four players, dance along to a wide selection of popular songs.

Featured tracks include “Just The Way You Are,” Katy Perry’s “One of the Boys,” and original songs from The Smurfs, including “Smurfberry-licious” and “Gargamel.” Toys “R” Us is carrying an exclusive edition that includes a bonus track, “Walking on Sunshine.”

Other new Smurfs-themed games include The Smurfs for Nintendo DS and The Smurfs & Co. for Facebook.

Rev Up for the New “Cars 2″ Video Game

Cars fans can race around the world this summer and hone their spy skills. Disney Interactive Studios has released Disney•Pixar’s Cars 2: The Video Game, available on all major gaming platforms.

The game, based on the soon-to-be-released movie Cars 2, will have players take on dangerous missions, attempt to become the fastest race car in the world, and use their espionage skills in combat racing and battle arenas. Avalanche Software developed the game in collaboration with the filmmakers at Pixar Animation Studios.

Players can choose to play as one of more than 20 different characters, including favorites like Mater and Lightning McQueen. Players are emerged in the Cars universe and in different locales around the world, including London, Tokyo  and Italy.

Toys “R” Us Launches Rio Merchandising Program

Starting next month, Toys “R” Us customers can experience Rio via a new exclusive partnership between the retailer and Twentieth Century Fox. Toys “R” Us stores and Toysrus.com/Rio will offer consumers a first look at the upcoming family film, scheduled to premiere in theaters April 15.

At Toys “R” Us, customers will be able to find a merchandising assortment, including an exclusive toy line from ToyQuest, featuring poseable 3.75-inch mini figures in two packs, eight-inch basic plush pals, 10-inch animated talking plush, nine-inch feature plush and beanies, a nine-inch interactive plush version of Blu and Jewel chained together, and a seven-inch walking and talking plush Luiz bulldog.

Customers who buy the Rio video game, from THQ, for the Xbox and Wii will receive a DVD featuring never-before-seen sneak peeks of the film, while supplies last. Those who purchase the video game for the PlayStation 3 will receive a free Blu-ray version of the DVD.

The retailer has also launched a microsite for Rio merchandise, Toysrus.com/Rio. The site includes movie trailers, exclusive downloadable coloring pages from the Modern Publishing coloring books, and more.

Ubisoft To Include Special-Edition Glove with Initial Michael Jackson Video Game Launch

Ubisoft has announced a special launch and pre-order offer for its upcoming video game Michael Jackson The Experience. The company will include a special-edition glove, reminiscent of the one worn by the King of Pop, with the initial release of the Wii version of the game. The special edition gloves will only be available for no additional cost at launch or if the game is pre-ordered.

Michael Jackson The Experience allows fans to dance to the late pop star’s greatest hits in environments inspired by his music videos and live performances. To date the playlist includes Bad, Beat It, Billie Jean, Black or White, Dirty Diana, Earth Song, Ghost, Rock with You, Smooth Criminal, Speed Demon, The Girl Is Mine, They Don’t Care About Us, Thriller, Who Is It, and Workin’ Day and Night.

Yogi Bear Stars in New Video Game, Movie

D3Publisher (D3P) has announced a worldwide licensing agreement with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Yogi Bear: The Video Game, to be released this holiday season for the Wii and Nintendo DS. The new video game will be released in conjunction with the theatrical release of Yogi Bear.

In Yogi Bear: The Video Game, players help Yogi Bear (voiced by Dan Akroyd who also stars as Yogi in the movie) save Jellystone Park from being shut down forever. Players can jump, crawl, belly slide, sneak, zip-line, and explore Jellystone Park as they search for wildlife, objects, and go on adventures. Yogi Bear’s sidekick Boo Boo also helps with difficult challenges.

Yogi Bear: The Video Game is under development by Monkey Bar Games.

Activision, Nickelodeon to Release New iCarly Video Game

This fall, Activision Publishing, Inc. and Nickelodeon will release a second game based on the Nickelodeon television series iCarly. iCarly 2: iJoin the Click, which will be available for the Wii and Nintendo DS, puts players in the role of a new student at Ridgeway High. Players interact with characters from the show, create new webisodes, and compete in challenges and mini games while they explore locations featured in the show.

The game will be available internationally this fall.

Ubisoft Unveils Holiday Season Releases

Interactive entertainment company Ubisoft is releasing several additions to its existing series of games, in addition to introducing new games this holiday season across media platforms.

Battle Tag

Ubisoft introduces a laser tag-inspired game: Battle Tag. Set for release in late November in North America, the game is designed with 20 different game plays, and includes a port that connects to a PC, allowing the computer to act as “game master.”

Players use guns that are complete with RFID technology to store information. The guns have a 300 meter radius from the port, which acts as a base for the game. Sets come with ammo packs and medic packs that recharge ammo and life points when connected to the guns. Additional guns, bases, ammo, and medic packs will be available for purchase in addition to the basic set.

Fox Consumer Products UK Signs Glee Partners

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products UK has announced the first partnerships for its Glee licensing program. Fox Consumer Products has partnered with Konami Digital Entertainment for a new Nintendo Wii game, Karaoke Revolution Glee. In the video game, players sing alongside their favorite Glee characters and perform memorable scenes from season one.

Other new partners include GB Eye for a Glee-inspired range of postcards, posters, badges, and tattoo lines; Danila for calendars and diaries; Pyramid International for college stationery and bags; UK Greetings, Ltd. for a range of innovative greetings cards, gift wrap, and gift bags; Headline Publishing Group for a series of Glee novels and an official Glee annual; as well as new partners for mobile and computer accessories, gifts, health and beauty, bedding, confectionery, and apparel.

Nintendo Dominates Top Family Games for May

The NPD Group has released its list of Top-Selling Family Entertainment Titles for May 2010, with games for Nintendo consoles filling 18 of the 20 spots. Maintaining its standing from April, Ubisoft‘s Just Dance for the Nintendo Wii came in at No. 1, while Picross 3D and Zhu Zhu Pets, both for the Nintendo DS, came in second and third, respectively.

The two non-Nintendo DS or Wii games on the list were Guitar Hero 5 and Rock Band 2, coming in at No. 11 and No. 16, respectively, both for the Xbox 360.
