Free Shipping Day, which had $942 million in sales last year, has been scheduled for Friday, December 16. According to a press release, Free Shipping Day is poised to meet or surpass its goal of signing up 2,000 merchants that will provide free shipping and delivery by Christmas Eve.

With more than two months to go until Christmas, more than 500 merchants, including Melissa & Doug, RadioShack, Barnes & Noble, J.C. Penney, Macy’s, and Kohl’s, have already signed up to participate. The third annual Free Shipping Day, created by Freeshipping.org, has been scheduled for December 17. Free Shipping Day is a one-day shopping event that allows consumers to browse merchants who will offer free shipping and guaranteed Christmas Eve delivery. So far, said Freeshipping.org CEO Luke Knowles to InternetRetailer.com, 125 online merchants have signed up to participate this year. Knowles expects that more than 1,000 retailers will sign up for this year’s event. Last year, more than 750 merchants listed their free shipping offers on the website, and Knowles estimates that 35,000 purchases were made.

According to Knowles, any merchant can list its free shipping offer for free on Freeshippingday.com and all retailer logos will appear on the home page. For more information, visit www.freeshippingday.com.

More than 300 merchants have signed up for Free Shipping Day, a one-day online shipping event on December 17. On that date, participating merchants such as Toys “R” Us, Babies “R” Us, Sears, and Petsmart will offer customers free shipping and guaranteed Christmas delivery. Other participating merchants include JCPenney, Kmart, FAO Schwarz, Meijer, and Buy.com.

According to the most recent e-Customer Service Index (eCSI), 93 percent of people intend to search the web  for presents this holiday season and more than 71 percent plan to complete at least half of their holiday shopping online. For more information, visit FreeShippingDay.com
