CPSC Approves Mandate on Registration of Infant, Toddler Products

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) unanimously approved a new rule requiring manufacturers of durable infant or toddler products to establish and maintain a registration card program.
As mandated by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, each manufacturer of a durable infant or toddler product will be required to: provide a postage-paid consumer registration form with each product; keep records of consumers who register their products with the manufacturer; and permanently place the manufacturer’s name and contact information, model name and number, and the date of manufacture on each product.

RC2 to Pay $1.25 Million Lead Settlement

RC2 Corp. has agreed to pay a $1.25 million penalty settlement for importing and selling Thomas & Friends children’s toys that contained excessive lead that were above legal limits. As part of the settlement, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said, RC2 Corp. denied that it knowingly violated federal lead laws.

Fisher-Price-Branded Cribs Part of Largest Crib Recall in U.S. History

Nearly 150,000 of the Stork Craft cribs that were recalled today carry the Fisher-Price logo. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Stork Craft Manufacturing, Inc., issued a voluntary recall of more than 2.1 million of Stork Craft’s drop-side cribs, making it the largest crib recall in U.S. history. Most of the recalled cribs were distributed in the U.S., approximately 1,213,000 units, with approximately 968,000 units distributed in Canada.

CPSC to Hold Town Hall Meeting Tomorrow on Toy Safety
Monday, November 16th, 2009

Inez Tenenbaum, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) chairman, will hold a town hall meeting at Toys “R” Us Times Square on November 17 at 9:30 a.m. ET to answer consumers’ questions and concerns about toy safety hazards and requirements. Tenenbaum, who will be joined by Jerry Storch, chairman and CEO of Toys “R” Us, and Alan Korn, executive director and general counsel of Safe Kids USA, will also talk about the steps the agency is taking to ensure that children’s toys are safe.
