Lionel Trains to Open Holiday Pop-up Store in Rockefeller Center

According to the New York Daily News, Lionel will debut its first solo store, scheduled to open November 1 through January 4. The pop-up store will be located in New York City, across from Radio City Music Hall. The shop will feature new kid-friendly trains and train products, such as the new 49-piece plastic train set by the company’s new kid line, Lionel Little Lines. The new store will also auction off trains autographed by celebrities, including part-owner Neil Young, with the proceeds going to charity.

Nickelodeon Acquires Global Rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for $60 million

Nickelodeon has acquired global intellectual property rights to the television, film, and video game property Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The company purchased the rights from the Mirage Group and 4Kids Entertainment, Inc. for approximately $60 million. Nickelodeon will develop a new CG-animated television series, as well as a feature film, based on the franchise. The film, as part of a partnership with Paramount Pictures, and the series are slated to premiere in 2012. (more…)

Tinker Bell to be Named UN “Honorary Ambassador of Green”

In a ceremony on Sunday, October 25, the United Nations will name Disney’s Tinker Bell “Honorary Ambassador of Green” for “living consistently in harmony with the environment.” The ceremony will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and will be followed by the world premiere of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure. Guests will include Raven Symone, the voice of Disney fairy Iridessa, and Mae Whitman, the voice of Tinker Bell, as well as UN delegates.

Discounts Most Important Factor for Holiday Shoppers Says Survey

Holiday shoppers are expected to spend an average of $22.27 dollars less than last year, a 3.2 percent drop, according to the National Retail Federation’s 2009 Holiday Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey. According to the survey, price discounts (43.3 percent) and everyday low prices (12.7 percent) will be the most important factors when decided where to shop. Other factors include selection (21 percent), quality (11.8 percent), convenience (4.9 percent), and customer service (4.4 percent).

Toys “R” Us Drafts Shaq for Toys for Tots Campaign

Toys “R” Us has teamed up with NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal for the annual Toys for Tots Campaign. The fundraising campaign for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation begins October 22 in Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores nationwide, as well as at Toysrus.com/ToysforTots.
Earning the name “Shaq-A-Claus,” the basketball player will make surprise visits to Toys “R” Us stores in the coming months to shop for needy children and encourage customers to give back. For nine weeks, through December 6, new, unwrapped toys will be collected at the company’s stores. The collected toys will be distributed to children in the community where they were donated. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Domo Stars in Five Nintendo Video Games

Domo hits the video game screen in a series of five Nintendo DSi games starring the internet and pop culture superstar. Through a worldwide agreement (excluding Asia) between Big Tent Entertainment and Nintendo, the video game company is publishing and releasing Crash-Course Domo, Hard-Hat Domo, Pro-Putt Domo, Rock-n-Roll Domo, and White-Water Domo, which are available for download in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America via the Nintendo DSi Shop. Toys “R” Us Debuts Holiday Layaway Program

Toys “R” Us, Inc. is introducing a new in-store layaway program, “Big Gift” Layaway. Through the program, customers at Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores may reserve toys, such as bikes and play kitchens, early in the season and make a series of small payments over an extended time.
Kids products that are a part of the Big Gift Layaway program include bikes, ride-on vehicles, dollhouses, play kitchens, outdoor play equipment and playsets, pools and water slides, basketball systems, karaoke machines, musical instruments, televisions, and indoor table games. Baby products included in the program are infant and toddler furniture, car seats, high chairs, play yards, strollers and travel systems, and bassinets.
